G Suite Sync Failure: Android Device Policy

Mobile device Sync issue

Problem Statement: G Suite Account Synchronization Anomaly Post-Android 7 Migration

Users who have upgraded their mobile devices to Android 7 (Nougat) may encounter a disruption in G Suite account synchronization, particularly when a stringent mobile device policy has been instated for the organizational domain.

Root Cause and Remediation Protocol

The genesis of this synchronization impediment lies in a pivotal security enhancement intrinsic to Android 7. This iteration of the operating system now mandates the activation of a device startup password. This requirement harmonizes with the fortified mobile device policies governing G Suite user accounts, which stipulate such a security measure as a prerequisite for enhanced data integrity and access control.

To re-establish G Suite account synchronization, affected users are compelled to activate the “Secure startup” option. This setting necessitates the input of the lock screen password prior to the device’s full power-on sequence, thereby ensuring a robust layer of pre-boot authentication.

Procedural Steps for Secure Startup Activation:

  1. Access Device Settings: Navigate to and launch the Settings application on your Android device.

  2. Locate Security Configurations: Within the Settings interface, traverse to the Lock Screen and Security section, subsequently designating Secure startup.

  3. Instantiate Password Requirement: Opt for the Require password when device powers on option, then confirm your selection by tapping OK.

Upon the successful activation of this setting, access the Device Policy application. Initiate a manual synchronization cycle by touching Sync Now. This action will catalyze the reconciliation of your G Suite data.
